Villa Palma – Palma de Mallorca

FM Architettura has completed the design of a private residence in Palma de Mallorca — a contemporary finca conceived as a place of retreat, reflection, and artistic expression. Set on terraced land overlooking the Moorish castle of Bendinat, the project replaces an existing structure, reinterpreting the site through a more rigorous architectural language rooted in context, memory, and time.

More than a residential commission, the house emerges from a collaboration between Francesca Muzio and the owner, the project is shaped by a shared sensibility — where architecture becomes a framework for art, and living becomes an extension of creative practice. The design responds directly to the topography of the site, following the contours of the hill and opening outward toward the surrounding landscape. Organised across three levels, the residence is conceived as a sequence of spaces that balance openness with intimacy, allowing the house to feel both expansive and deeply personal.

Central to the project is the idea of time — not as a constraint, but as a condition of design. The process unfolded in a rhythm aligned with the island itself: slower, more deliberate, and responsive. “A slow rhythm, different from the rest of the world, which we had to embrace to carry forward the project,” explains Francesca Muzio. “The time of creatives does not have a constant rhythm — it adapts to needs.” This temporal dimension informs both the architecture and the experience of the house, shaping how spaces are entered, revealed, and inhabited.
